Wedding flower ideas and planning tips by Swaffham and Fakenham Florist

Swaffam and Fakenham Florist supplied the fabulous wedding flowers at Rebecca and George’s recent wedding. We asked owners Michelle and Megan how couples can recreate this stunning look as well as getting some top tips on planning and choosing wedding flowers for their Oxnead Hall wedding.

Tell us a little bit about Swaffham and Fakenham Florist

Swaffham and Fakenham Florist is a family run business which has had a shop in Swaffham for 12years! We have recently made the decision to rebrand and become a studio based florist so that we can purely focus on weddings, events and workshops, as of March 2020 we shall be ‘Floral Sistas’.

How do you work with couples during the wedding planning stage? Any tips?

We recommend couples contact us with plenty of notice, 12-18 months is great, our diaries tend to book up quite quickly and we limit the number of weddings we take to ensure each and everyone gets our high level of service. We would ask couples to send an initial email enquiry with their, name, date and venue. We can then respond with our booking process which is generally tailored to our clients, be it meet face to face, meet at the venue or for a lot of our clients who are not local we send our email consultation form and this is where the process generally starts.

We fell in love with the flowers at Rebecca and George’s wedding, how can other couples recreate this look?

Rebecca and George’s wedding was a dream and they were a great couple to work with! Their flowers included soft pink roses, pale blue delphinium, thistles, white listhanus, veronica, with a touch of wax flower and astilbe.
Rebecca’s bouquet was neat in design but still had lots of texture to give a classic but natural feel. Their tall table centres filled the room and still allowed guests to be able to hold conversations under them. We have a rule that table centres must be tall enough to see under or low enough to see over!
The top table had a suspending floating floral cloud which was an epic back drop! Our favourite floral arrangement at Rebecca and George’s wedding was dressing their landrover! It’s always lovely to personalise your wedding day and this really did! The look of this wedding could be recreated all year round with a few substitutions that would suit each season of which your florist would advise you.

What are your favourite flowers?

Our favourite flowers tend to change with the seasons, and also trends can have an effect too! ranunculus is a firm favourite and is available late winter and into the spring, Peonies are another favourite but are only available for a very short period during the year typically April-July. For couples that wish to have peonies but are out of season, there are some incredible blousy garden roses that can look just as beautiful.
We generally suggest working with the best seasonal flowers and trusting your florist to pick the best blooms to suit your style and budget.

How many weddings have you decorated at Oxnead Hall?

That is a good question and to be honest we don’t know as there has been that many, we would guess over 50! We LOVE Oxnead Hall (as well as all the UNV venues!) We feel like it’s one of our second homes in the summer!

What do you love about working at the venue?

At Oxnead Hall the options to a couple are endless and always growing so they can have their own bespoke wedding, the flexibility of the venue is incredible and it really can be adapted to various different styles for instance Rebecca and George had a very classic, timeless wedding with a modern feel to it. Last year we worked on an incredible Boho wedding that completely changed the look of the venue and adapted to the style needs of the client!
The team at Oxnead are so professional, adaptable, friendly and helpful. They are simply the best and we feel part of the team when we are there!
